As I got backstage at the Highline hotel, I see tons of hairspray, models eating, and the sound of Lil’Wayne on the iPod dock, and I easily became super comfortable among all that was happening. I wasn’t the only one. Standing near the racks was a very cool, calm and collected Asaf Ganot, working with the dressers and lead stylist Mitchell Belk on setting up the looks for the show, which was happening in less than an hour. I almost doubted my knowledge (and gifted face detection skills when it comes to menswear designers) of Asaf, because he was so composed for someone who had a show quickly approaching. Then, I realized that his staff had everything covered; they were super organized, focused, and.. wait for it… nice. Before the models started dressing, Asaf walked me through the collection, showing me his favorite pieces and the footwear that he designed for the show. I was super impressed by the collection; especially being able to get this close to the garments, as I was able to really explore the most minute details that you wouldn’t be able to see on stage. He also taught me a lot about how European and Asian influences can bring strength to a collection. The review will be posted soon, but the Asaf Ganot Fall 2014 collection was very successful – congrats to him and the whole team!
