In an effort to pack light and smart for my trip to the Eruopean menswear circuit, I had to sacrifice a lot of my “inspire my look on the morning of” style and focus on packing light and efficiently. Bringing 3 pairs of shoes, and one and half jackets (one is a shirt-jacket kinda) was a stretch inside my carry-on roller – but one item that could not make its way on this trip was my bag. I’m always with some kind of bag, and at first I felt naked walking to the shows with nothing but my camera strap on my shoulder. So since my sense was heightened for the accessory, I was inspired by the men (and some women) in Italy who were accessorizing in a way that I couldn’t this trip.
Its refreshing to see that menswear is evolving from no bag to fully expressing yourself with the accessory. The messenger bag was a good gateway for most men, but now, we are seeing portfolios, sleeves, and totes accompanying looks for more than just function.
