Inspired by the “eccentric yet ‘oh so chic’ elder women of the Upper East Side, designer Katharine Hepburn paid homage to these women and her namesake Katherine Hepburn for the Houghton Fall 2013 Collection. While depicting the scene of the aristocratic women of the 1980’s, the collection was a youthful take on its elder reflection , showing the cyclical elegance of fashion.
Silks and leather were paired with furs and beading to create a collection that was saturated with luxury and tailoring. Black and champagne were contrasted with electric blue, chocolate, green and fuchsia; a bold palette that spanned the taste of women from UES to Paris. Peplums were a constant throughout; yet done in leathers and ostrich feathers. Beading was intricate and luxe, perfectly displayed in with the finale piece; a pewter metal sequins one shoulder gown that truly brought a youthful chic to the mature, elegant collection.
