With an inspiration of Ethiopian-born British explorer Wilfred Thesiger and Ethiopian leader Ras Tafari (who became Haile Selassie after coronation), the “E” in E Tautz had a synonymous homage to the country of Ethiopia. The bright, bold colors used in the collection are very descriptive to Ethiopia, and the capes and hats used in the collection were a synonym to the professional relationship between Emperor Hailee Selassie and Sir Wilfred Thesiger, who are both iconic figures in the East African country.
The E Tautz Spring 2013 Runway Presentation started with tailored suit donned with a bold pink cape; a look demonstrative of the brand’s reputation of bringing humor to men’s style, but clearly represents the stately, elaborate style of Haile Selassie. After the first look, perfect color combinations of blue and pink hues were presented, as well as yellow, which will be a huge color for men next year. The tees in the collection had a picture of Thesiger’s facial silhouette, a highly recognizable face for history buffs and fans of Ethiopian history. From fabrics and cuts of the looks, one can see the journey of the E Tautz man, functionally mixing the natural and regal elements of the country.
The visual simplicity of the collection allow us to see the expert execution of each look; structured, heavy weight of the fabrics add luxury and taste, while the mazing fit of the tailored suits make savile row smile with pride.
