Hey French Vogue, here’s an idea.. if you want to have a spread of dark skinned models, how about casting Black Models.. Your sister mag, Vogue Italia, had an entire spread (if you can actually call it that) of Black models, yet you have to resort to using Laura Stone (who I love under normal circumstances).
Take a look at each of these photos, which are very similar to the 3 looks from French Vogue; 1. Naomi Campbell, 2. Sessilee Lopez, and 3. is no other than Grace Jones (she likes a good crotch shot). These women are still living and still working in the industry, so why not use them?
American or not, “black Face” is offensive and the history of Black face should be understood and I would expect that a mature, established publication as Vogue would understand the sensitive nature of this issue. I know that models are supposed to portray art and illusion, but this is a line that should not be crossed. Its just not in good taste.
