Demistache Supports Movember - Women Can Wear Mustaches Too!

Can a Mustache really cure cancer? What about a chic mustache around your neck? While these objects may not necessarily cure the disease, both support the cause of curing a disease that effects many men across the globe. Movember is a campaign promoting awareness of prostate and testicular cancer, encouraging men to grow mustaches as a sign of support.

For you women who want to support the cause, but want to do it in a more fashionable way, jeweler Demistache, known for their "stache" necklaces, will donate $8 for every necklace sold from November 1 - January 1 from their website. Demistache, a collection of sculptural necklaces featuring the iconic "stache" was inspired by the Dada period, one of the most influential art movements in modern history and the first to be considered a “cultural movement. Designer Rachael White, encourages women to take part in this timely, and important movement for men's health. For more information about Demistache and to order one of the pieces, visit their website www.demitassejewelry.com .

Rihanna's New Video - Wait your Turn (The Wait is Ova)

Here's the new music video by Rihanna. What do you think? Too dark? What about that hairstyle? Think it will catch on?

Chris Brown's New Album Cover - Haute or Not?

Finally! Some fashion from Chris Brown! He is getting lots of feedback (some good and most bad) about the cover to his new album Graffiti; from the cartoons being immature to his pants being too tight. I agree about the cartoons being a bit too immature and random for this cover, but Breezy has done well with the fashion aspect. I wouldn't wear (or recommend for men) this out in public, but its perfect for an editorial shoot or an album cover. It beats the sweaters and bowties that he is known for wearing. This just might be Chris Brown's first time every getting kudos for style, but he deserves it!

Victoria's Secret: Victoria Beckham for Harper's Bazaar

Victoria Beckham is the cover girl for the December 2009 UK issue of Harper's Bazaar. Her editorial spread, entitled "Victoria's Secret," is shot by photographer Alexi Lubormirski.

MIchelle Obama for Glamour Magazine

First Lady Obama is the covergirl for the November issue of Glamour Magazine. In the issue she talks about life at the White House, fashion (of course) and even relationships.

I love the red against her complexion, but not sure if I like that neckpiece... it takes away from her naturally stunning neckline.

Jessica Stam for Ricci Ricci

Here is an ad for Nina Ricci's new fragrance, Ricci Ricci, featuring Jessica Stam. Wow, another "non-celeb" fragrance ad that doesn't involve a celebrity as its spokesmodel. A big win for the design/fashion/model world.

Obama's Coming to Town, Does it Matter Why? - More Help for Creigh Deeds

Its approaching a full year since Barack H. Obama made history and became the First African American to be elected as President of the United States. It also marked a successful completion of a campaign that engaged the entire US (and World) population, whether you voted for him or not. Every news outlet gained high ratings during last year's campaign, covering the Big election, and the local elections, which also experienced record votes and interest amongst their respective localities.

Now, with a big Gubernatorial race in Virginia, that seems to be lackluster in energy and interest, I have to wonder if the hype of political novelty has run off. While Obama's win and campaign has influenced many to grab a hold of politics in some form, it seems as if the coined "Obama Factor" is much harder to find among the candidates, and the grass roots.

I thought about this more after reading a Washington Post article which discusses the danger that Democratic Candidate Creigh Deeds has found himself in - and how its contributed to him not fully identifying his campaign and agenda with an Obama doctrine (so to speak). In this article, which you can read here, it mentions that the President will be in my area (Hampton Roads) this week to campaign for Deeds. With only a week until election day, I can only wish Deeds well and hope this outcome works for him (though at this time I am not moved for either candidate.. still have some research to do..).

So, after getting an invitation to the campaign rally (being held at the Ted Constant Center tomorrow), I began to hear others talk in excitement about seeing Obama. So, naturally I get excited and begin asking them about their thoughts of Deeds and the race, and to my surprise, they had no idea (or showed no interest) in the discussion. They simply just want to see Obama, no matter what he is talking about! Now, while I admit that I too would go see the President no matter what as well, I do find a problem here; how much will Obama's visit help Deeds if people have no interest in him? Will it work to just say "Vote for Deeds because Obama came and told you so" - or is it too late for the Obama Factor to rub off on Deeds?

Eva Longoria-Parker and Tony Parker for London Fog

Move over Posh and Becks! The Parkers have come to help give validity back to London Fog. Much like Giselle has already done for the brand, the new campaign featuring Tony and Eva Longoria parker will be hitting magazines soon. I hope they don't change the ad thats up on Fashion Avenue.. I love Giselle!

Kim Kardashian for Kurv Magazine

Kim Kardashian has grown to be quite the mogul. After being initially known for a sex tape, she has channeled her love for the camera into a more tasteful spread as Barbie in the new issue of Kurv Magazine. Kim K was also a guest judge on America's Next Top Model last night... I think she is a good inspiration to those girls who aren't tall, but have the face to rock out any photo shoot.

"The Wait is Ova" - Rihanna Films new Video

After nearly a year of silence (and parties, men and women) Rihanna is breaking her silence musicaly with a new album scheduled to be released on November 23. She recently shot the video for the first single "The Wait is Ova" (Or it may be called "Russian Roulette" but we will soon find out), and judging from the video still above, it looks like her sense of style didn't disappear! I can't wait to see what she has in store for us visually!

Linda Evangelista for W Mag

Here's Linda Evangelista's cover for the new issue of W Magazine. I can't wait to see the rest of the spread!

French Vogue and BlackFace - Why Not Use Black Models Instead?

Hey French Vogue, here's an idea.. if you want to have a spread of dark skinned models, how about casting Black Models.. Your sister mag, Vogue Italia, had an entire spread (if you can actually call it that) of Black models, yet you have to resort to using Laura Stone (who I love under normal circumstances).

Take a look at each of these photos, which are very similar to the 3 looks from French Vogue; 1. Naomi Campbell, 2. Sessilee Lopez, and 3. is no other than Grace Jones (she likes a good crotch shot). These women are still living and still working in the industry, so why not use them?

American or not, "black Face" is offensive and the history of Black face should be understood and I would expect that a mature, established publication as Vogue would understand the sensitive nature of this issue. I know that models are supposed to portray art and illusion, but this is a line that should not be crossed. Its just not in good taste.

Nike Jordan Leroy Smith

A MUST HAVE!! But only if you know how to manage a shoe with so many different patterns and colors.

Kanye West - Pastelle Line is Over!

After a trend of "no-shows" of Kanye, to include his absence at the BET Hip Hop Awards, and the cancellation of the Fame Kills tour with Lady Gaga, it seems as his highly anticipated (for at least 6 years now) line Pastelle will NOT be released. Who knows why the Rapper/Fashion Intern decided to quit the line, but I think that it was pretty much inevitable if a person with that much money and that much influence on the fashion industry couldn't stand up a line within a year. The man has designed shoes for Louis Vuitton and Nike.. clearly he should have been able to pump out a line of the jackets like the one he wore to the 2008 American Music Awards. Kanye says that he will launch another line with a different name - I hope I don't report this same thing in 2014,

Longchamp: The New "It" Bag at UVA

I spent the weekend in beautiful Charlottesville, VA celebrating Homecomings at THE greatest University in the Nation, The University of Virginia! Being that it is football season, and I only expect to see a sea of orange and blue, I usually turn off my fashion radar and refrain from generating Q-tips. I couldn't help but notice that there has been a change in the "it" bag from my years at The University.

Most of you remember that you wouldn't go a block without seeing a girl with a Kate Spade bag. I think Every single sorority girl had one in every color. Now, all you see on grounds are the nylon Longchamp "Le Pliage" bags with the leather flap. Longchamp has a pretty good history here on the Ave, as I am a fan of their men's neckties (it was once a breath of fresh air from Burberry), but I never thought that it would hit the streets of JPA, McCormick and Rugby!

Jimmy Choo for H&M Fall 2009

Very similar to Jimmy Choo's own campaign. Love the focus on the footwear and bags. Ladies, for $130 you should like it too!

Fall Trend: Chunky Cableknit

Cable knit is a timeless knit for every year, but this Fall/Winter season is all about exaggerated versions of typical fashion staples. For ladies, the typical small cable knit is a bit too traditional and actually gives your look a matronly feel. Instead, go for a chic look of the Chunky Cableknits. The photos below are of three of my favorite chunk cableknits; both are on the uber expensive end, but it gives the best depiction of what you should be looking for.

Pringle of Scotland Cashmere Chunky Knit - $1800
-
Alexander McQueen Cashmere Blend Cardigan - $2200

Theory Nickname Sapphire Sweater - $300

These looks (if you have the money to buy it) or anything that resembles the overal theme of the chunky cable knit looks great with a pair of dark washed skinny jeans, or even tights if the sweater/cardigan is long enough (and if your tights aren't liquid leggings).

Follow Suit: Anti -wine Flu Suit in Japan

Want to fight off germs without the use of a Mask, or that vaccine mist that is probably just a bitter as those days of using Affrin? Want to look good while fighting off H1N1? Look no further! (if you're in Japan...)

Haryuma Trading has come out with the Anti-Swine Flu Suit, a men's suit described to do just what its name says.. to fight off H1N1.

Contains titanium oxide, also found in toothpaste and mouth wash, is said to fight off the virus on clothing, and protect those who may touch you if you're already infected. It wont cure h1n1, but it will help to keep the virus away from skin/pore contact while you're wearing the suit. Take it off, and I'm not sure what type of protection you really have.

Let's think feasibility here... the flue shot is $35 bucks... the suits costs about 600 US dollars... unless you want to wear the suit everyday (not recommended - just think about it) the best, most logical and cost effective option is to get the shot, or shuck it up (literally) and get the mist. Still wear suits though, its that time of year!
